About Motion Capture
Motion capture is the process of digitally capturing real life movement, usually human movement. Although there are a number of techniques for doing this, the most proven is a technology called passive optical currently being pioneered by Vicon and Motion Analysis. This process involves putting hyper reflective makers on a capture subject, then a calibrated capture system consisting of a number of cameras surrounding the subject track the makers. So long as a marker can been seen by two cameras, a 3d fix and trajectory can be obtained by the system. This trajectory is often used by the entertainment industry to puppeteer character rigs, or combined with force data by the medial industry. Other industrial applications exist.
